Another Stryker Brigade Will Receive ITT Radios and Support Under New IDIQ
White Plains, NY – June 12, 2006 – ITT (NYSE: ITT) today announced the U.S. Army has placed a $3.5 million order for 28 Near Term Data Radios (NTDR) and spares, as part of a new five-year, indefinite delivery/ indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract. The IDIQ—with a ceiling of 400 radios and a potential value of $28 million—will also provide field service and repair support for deployed NTDRs.
The Army will use the 28 new radios to equip the 7th Stryker Brigade and future Brigade Combat Teams. Strykers are highly mobile fighting forces that respond to fast-developing, combined military operations. In recent years, Stryker Brigades One through Six were outfitted with 314 NTDRs. In addition, the Army's 1st Cavalry Division, its 4th Infantry Division and other units have been equipped with 391 NTDRs.
NTDR is a radio system that automatically forms and reforms networks to help soldiers communicate with maximum reliability. Using ad hoc network technology, a cellular networking architecture and Internet protocols, NTDR passes data, graphic and video information to combat forces on the move. Unlike cellular telephones, NTDR does not require base stations or other infrastructure. The system's high data rate and extended frequency range make NTDR ideal for moving large amounts of data around a battlefield.
"It's all about speed and accuracy of information. If you can move reliable, real-time data from the front lines to the tactical operation center, Soldiers and commanders have a much better understanding of the battle, at all levels," said Lou Dollive, president and general manager of ITT Communications Systems. "NTDR helps them do that."
NTDR is produced by ITT Communications Systems (CS) which is headquartered in Ft. Wayne, Ind. ITT has fielded more very high frequency military radios than any other supplier in the world.
