ITT Receives Radar Modernization Contract
October 3, 2005 – ITT today announced it has received a contract for start-up activities from Naval Sea Systems Command for the AN/SPS-48E Radar Obsolescence, Availability Recovery Program. Under the Navy's plan, ITT will provide upgrades and modifications to AN/SPS-48E radars over the next eight years through contracts valued at up to $150 million, enabling more than 30 AN/SPS 48E radar systems to remain in service through 2040.
The AN/SPS-48E radar was first introduced in the mid-1980’s as part of the New Threat Upgrade Program on Aircraft Carriers, Cruisers and Destroyers. The mission of the radar is to provide 3-D, long-range, air surveillance for both ground-based (fixed site) and shipboard applications.
