ITT Completes Contractor Testing of Radar System
October 26, 2005 – ITT today announced it has completed the initial contractor testing of its Mobile Approach Control System (MACS), AN/MPN-26. The rugged, deployable system will permit safe and effective air operations, and succeeds equipment that has been operational for generations.
Testing of MACS included initial performance and communication interoperability, and a second stage of full radar testing, including flight tests. Testing was completed at ITT’s Gilfillan Division. MACS is currently being tested by government agencies which is scheduled to be completed by April 2006. After testing is successfully completed, the first five units will be delivered to the Air National Guard.
MACS will provide both the U. S. Air Force and Air National Guard Air Traffic Control with capabilities well beyond anything that currently exists. This includes full Air Traffic Control (ATC) functions like those found in fixed Federal Aviation Administration facilities, but packaged for rapid deployment. Capable of stand-alone operations anywhere in the world, the highly mobile system consists of a digital Airport Surveillance Radar with associated tactical shelter, an operations subsystem housed in separate tactical shelters, and a Precision Approach Radar.
The ITT family of ATC solid-state radars is available in fixed, transportable, and mobile versions for both civil and military applications worldwide. First introduced in 1996, ITT’s ATCs are the number one choice for military services in the world. ITT’s ATC solid-state products are operational in Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Korea, Malaysia, Poland, Romania, Taiwan, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States.
